In this part of the world every centimetre counts and when you find a property with nearly 200 sqm of land everything seems that much larger. With a 6 metre (approx) frontage, the bedrooms and hallway have a nice open feel so often missing from properties with the more usual 5 metre frontage. The stairs to the upstairs extension are tucked in behind the kitchen and haven’t been made a feature, which is unusual in this type of renovation. I actually like it because it gives the kitchen/family room a less cluttered feel, as the stairs don’t interrupt your line of sight. The height of the ceilings in the rear extension may however concern some buyers as they are a little low. Rear access via Little Lyell Street is excellent and will allow you to park your car off the street if you wish. Mountain Street does carry some traffic, as drivers use it as a cut through to Pickles Street and, while I didn’t notice any traffic noise from inside the property, it was obvious when standing in the street. Victorian terraces with good accommodation were popular in South and Port Melbourne prior to Christmas and if the price is right you would expect competition for this on the day.
