I was keen to take a look at this stately Victorian, elevated off the street in an equally stately suburb. The entrance is certainly in keeping with the grandness of the building, as are the high ceilings and details throughout. The elevation ensures windows lining the pavement sit above the eye level of passersby, so keeping the rooms reasonably private. However, some details reveal the difficulty of accommodating modern needs with this kind of property. The separate dining room is closed off from the kitchen, for instance, as was the style of the day. I wonder who eats this way anymore.  A kitchen is at the rear, along with a small family area would be good to open up to the dining area if possible. A laundry is a blip on the floorplan as you step down to a space for a car at the rear. The upstairs bathrooms are centrally located off the stairs, which is a bit awkward, although one of them enjoys good light. The bedrooms are lacking storage, but there is scope to install some and to better use the retreat area at the back. The front bedrooms open out onto an Italianate terrace, and it’s difficult to not factor in the romance of this feature that affords good views around the immediate surrounds. Couples and those with adult children that love the idea of such proportions and vintage could overlook the shortcomings of this home. It’s so close to the CBD, and medical professionals ought to take a look. They don’t build them like this anymore, and tinkering could address some issues to do with the flow in and out of rooms, lack of storage and the like. It’s quite an address.
