There are two things you should do when you visit this home. 1. Look up, and 2. Look out. ‘Look up’ because a couple of the rooms have quite amazing ceilings, particularly the recessed dome in what was originally a dining room. It’s a bit special. ‘Look out’, because you are in a part of the city that actually feels a bit like picturesque country living. The yard itself is private, and even better are the Hedgeley Dene Gardens running like your own personal green belt just metres away.

If the things mentioned get you excited, you could be happy to overlook the few challenges of the home. What challenges? The 1930s layout places the kitchen in a central location that doesn’t appear ideal to operate out of with kids running about. Also, there is only one main bathroom (plus a tiny one). The bedrooms appear to have switched about over time. Do you add an ensuite to the side of the current master bedroom? Or do you renovate and turn the other bedrooms into a master by creating a large ensuite and robe out of one of the adjoining rooms?

Some would see the sort of things mentioned as needing to be immediately addressed before the home would suit. Others will love the 1930s feel and may be happy to put off renovation work. Either way, with homes not often coming up in this part of town, strong prices can be achieved even if the home isn’t quite perfect. A property such as this can help clarify your needs: the feel and the character of the location, the style of the era, and how you feel about these aspects and what price to pay.
